Q: How fast can I expect to get my GPS position with the IntelliTrax Navigation System?
- Right out of the box
Getting a GPS position the very first time may take up to 15 minutes.
- Using it every day:
Depending if the user is in clear view of the sky and on when the unit was used last during the day it may take anywhere from a few seconds to 2 or 3 minutes.
- When moving the unit large distances:
Similarly to using the unit the first time, assuming the user is in clear view of the sky and the unit has its antenna rotated upwards, it may take longer than usual – up to a few minutes - for the receiver to locate itself after having traveled long distances while turned off, e.g. a few hundred miles, after a plane trip...
Q: What do I check for if / when I do not get a good satellite signal and my iTrax doesn’t know where I am?
- Do I have a clear view of the sky? I should be outside of a building, my unit is in clear view of the sky, I am not surrounded by tall trees and buildings.
- Is the integrated antenna turned up?
- Does my windshield have some special coating which prevents satellite signals to go through? If so, using an external antenna will fix this issue.
- Have I traveled a long distance with my unit turned off, in which case my receiver will take longer than usual to locate itself… Up to 10 or 15 minutes. Go to "Settings", GPS Information, then Satellite View. When you see greens bars, you have a GPS fix.
Q: How can I get the fastest and best possible satellite signal with my IntelliTrax Navigation System?
- Flip up the integrated antenna
- Use outside of garage, parking structure, building…
- Ensure a clear view of the sky: no tall buildings, trees, tunnel…
- Use an external antenna if your windshield has special metal-coating
- If you traveled long distances with the unit turned off (e.g. flying to a new location a few hundred miles away): Go to "Settings", GPS Information, then Satellite View. When you see greens bars, you have a GPS fix.
